F.A.Qs
Traditional braces can treat many common alignment problems. In general, most mild to moderate cases of malocclusion (bad bites) can benefit from braces.
You should discuss traditional braces and other orthodontic treatments with the team if you have:
- Crowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Wide gaps in your smile
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
- Open bite
Conditions like these can lead to a variety of dental complications. As a result of having an unbalanced bite, you might experience temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), worn-down or broken teeth, chewing difficulties, or tooth decay.
While you have braces, you’ll have to adhere to some specific instructions so you don’t damage the braces. It’s important to protect your braces to prevent complications and the need for emergency dentistry.
At Parkside Dental, the team encourages you to:
- Avoid chewing gum or other sticky foods
- Avoid biting down on hard objects
- Brush your teeth thoroughly after every meal
- Use a flossing tool to clean under the wires and between your teeth
- Use a mouthguard while playing sports to avoid mouth tissue damage
- Attend all of your adjustment appointments at Parkside Dental
If one of your braces detaches from your tooth, or if your braces become loose, contact the Parkside Dental office right away for repair. The team is always ready to help if you experience any problems with your braces.
